Project outcome / what changed
Reported improvements in legal search visibility
A six-month programme brought practice-area intent, local relevance and technical work together for a US criminal defence firm.
Metrics, where shown, are attributed to the original Pearl Lemon report. Source and methodology are linked below.
Local intent
Reach the right person in the right market.
This is an editorial map of the decisions discussed in the project account, not a claimed conversion funnel or newly measured result.
- 01
Identify local demand
Clarify the commercial challenge and the people it affects.
- 02
Improve relevant pages
Focus the work on changes that the team can deliver.
- 03
Make enquiries easier
Separate reported progress from qualified enquiries and revenue.
Where the project began
Visibility just outside the strongest positions
Someone searching for legal help needs the right service in the right jurisdiction. Smolin Law’s case describes competitive local searches, some valuable terms around positions 14–20 and slow early organic growth.
A criminal-defence search often comes from someone who needs accurate jurisdiction-specific information quickly. The stakes are different from browsing a general business service. A page must make the practice area, location and next contact step unmistakable without implying a legal outcome.
That made relevance and trust as important as reach. Broad legal traffic was not a substitute for being found by someone the practice could appropriately help.
What the team worked on
Technical access and practice-area relevance
Over roughly six months, Pearl Lemon addressed indexing, redirects, crawl issues, internal links and practice-area content while aligning the website with local legal searches. Accurate jurisdiction and approved legal information were essential constraints, not details to add after optimisation.
Pearl Lemon worked on indexing, redirects, crawl repairs, internal links and on-page legal topics, with local search alignment and historical link work. External tools and Search Console supported review.
What the record shows
More useful legal discovery, not a claim about case outcomes
The historical account describes improved locally relevant rankings, without showing how many retained matters resulted. That is the right boundary for the claim. A similar practice should judge search work by whether suitable local prospects can understand the service and request a consultation.
For a similar practice, the priority is appropriate discovery: clear jurisdiction and service information, accurate approved copy and an accessible route to consultation.

Where I would start on your website
Increase qualified local legal consultations while protecting accuracy in a sensitive service category.
- 1Map real practice areas and location eligibility to pages that a prospective client can use; avoid indiscriminate city or offence templates.
- 2Audit attorney identity, jurisdiction, qualifications, service claims, contact accessibility and canonical/indexation before expanding content.
- 3Review local rankings and consultation enquiries separately, with approvals for legal copy and privacy-aware measurement.
How to measure commercial progress
Track relevant local non-branded case-type queries, valid consultation requests and retained matters, without disclosing confidential case details.

How to read the results
The source reports improvements in keyword rankings and third-party authority estimates, including a movement from 26 to 31 in one metric. Neither figure establishes new legal matters won.
What better measurement could reveal
Dated query-level Search Console extracts, local maps tracking, attribution to signed client enquiries and the metric provider's exact definition.
