Commissioned video-search audit and advisory work

A £600 paid video SEO audit in 2017 focused on how specialist manufacturing demonstrations could reach buyers researching a solution.

Metrics, where shown, are attributed to the original Pearl Lemon report. Source and methodology are linked below.

    Specialist delivery

Make complex expertise easier to evaluate.

This is an editorial map of the decisions discussed in the project account, not a claimed conversion funnel or newly measured result.

    1. 01

      Understand the problem

Clarify the commercial challenge and the people it affects.

    2. 02

      Deliver scoped improvements

Focus the work on changes that the team can deliver.

    3. 03

      Review the evidence

Separate reported progress from qualified enquiries and revenue.

    Where the project began

Good demonstrations that needed a search context

OAL Group’s production automation, steam-infusion and equipment demonstrations had a visual story to tell. The search challenge was reaching an engineer who did not already know the company name.

A machine demonstration can be persuasive to the right engineer and invisible to everyone else. The title, description and surrounding context have to connect what is happening on screen with the process or problem a buyer is researching.

A useful video can be hard to find if its title and description do not connect the demonstration with the problem a buyer is researching.

    02

    What the team worked on

A focused audit of video discovery

OAL commissioned a focused £600 video SEO audit. Pearl Lemon reviewed the terminology, titles, descriptions and distribution of technical demonstrations, looking at how an engineer searching for a process or solution might discover the right footage.

The bounded audit reviewed titles, metadata, search terminology and distribution through YouTube and Google Video. It led to recommendations and discussion of further support.

    03

    What the record shows

    A defined advisory deliverable

The outcome was an advisory deliverable and discussion of possible further work—not evidence that every recommendation was implemented or that video enquiries increased. It is a useful example of a bounded consulting engagement: investigate a clear problem, provide recommendations and define what should be measured after implementation.

Where I would start on your website

Help technical buyers find a demonstration for the machine or process they are actually specifying.

    1. 1Build a video inventory by machine type, manufacturing problem, product name and likely engineer-led search query; separate videos intended for sales enablement from those intended for discovery.
    2. 2Check each video's public title, spoken context, description, chapter markers, thumbnail and linked product page. Make the benefit and technical subject explicit without overstating equipment capabilities.
    3. 3Connect high-intent demonstration videos to the relevant equipment or enquiry page and identify which technical specialists can approve terminology before anything is republished.

    How to measure commercial progress

Report relevant video-search impressions, engaged view sessions, product-page visits and qualified engineering enquiries separately; do not treat all views as buyer demand.

    How to read the results

A paid audit shows an advisory engagement and defined deliverable. It does not independently establish an increase in video reach, qualified leads or revenue.

    What better measurement could reveal

The final audit deliverable, channel-level video impressions/watch-time before and after, implementation dates and enquiries attributable to industrial videos would demonstrate outcomes.
