21 SAS reserve locations: the Army's published regions
By Deepak Shukla · Historical account and source-led commentary
The Army Jobs SAS Reserve page lists 21 SAS regions covering London and the South East, Wales, the M3/M4 corridor, East Anglia and the South West. It lists 23 SAS in the Midlands, Scotland and the North of England. These are broad recruiting regions, not verified base addresses or promises of a vacancy.
The five broad regions listed for 21 SAS
As checked on the British Army Jobs website on 15 October 2026, the public 21 SAS locations list names London and South East, Wales, the M3/M4 corridor, East Anglia and the South West. The list is useful for orienting an enquiry, but it is not a map of units, an operational footprint or a list of places to turn up unannounced. The recruiting team can tell you which current process applies to you.
Where the same page places 23 SAS
The current role listing separately names the Midlands, Scotland and the North East and North West of England for 23 SAS. That does not mean the experience of every reservist is confined to one region, nor that an applicant should choose on geography alone. These are two distinct reserve regiments with a common official recruiting route.
I lived the scheduling problem, not the regional directory
In my 2015–2016 application, the training burden was about arranging time around a civilian working life, turning up when required and accepting that preparation would be more than an occasional weekend. I cannot authenticate today's local unit opening hours from that experience. Someone with a long commute has a different planning problem from someone whose home and work are nearby.
What to ask before you plan a long commute
Ask the recruiting team which unit covers your circumstances, where initial Army training would take place, whether travel is expected, what attendance could look like and how the schedule interacts with normal work. An answer from the team is more useful than a cached directory listing, especially when arrangements change. Do not publish or rely on unverified private meeting locations.
What the Army says about commitment
An official October 2025 Soldier magazine feature described significant training demands, readiness to deploy and an average UK service contribution of 60 reserve days for an SAS Reserve trooper or commander. An average in a dated article is not a guaranteed personal requirement or a substitute for the current joining terms. The underlying point is that this is an ongoing military obligation rather than a fitness challenge.
Location should not obscure the bigger decision
A short journey to a unit does not remove the challenge of training, time off work or family commitments. I ultimately chose not to attempt selection after doing preparatory Army training. That decision is part of my record, and it matters when assessing what a serious commitment might mean. Read the official regional page, then decide whether to begin a recruiting conversation.

The regions above come from the Army Jobs SAS Reserve role page reviewed 15 October 2026; the commitment observation is from the dated Soldier magazine recruiting feature. What is current policy, and what is my own experience?
I applied to 21 SAS, completed Alpha and Bravo, attended around 10–15 Wednesday evening preparation sessions and a 21 SAS-linked assessment weekend where our performance was monitored. I later chose not to continue to the formal selection course; I did not qualify or serve as a member of the Regiment. My private Georgian training was a separate experience. Military requirements belong to the Army, not to this independent personal website.

The Army Jobs listing and the October 2025 Soldier article use different age wording. That is a reason to ask the recruiting unit, not to pick the most convenient figure. These references are checked as of the date above, not monitored automatically.
