How To Motivate Your Team To Work Harder and Work Faster

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Morning all,

time

Back at it and today I want to talk about motivating your team.

One of the biggest things managers and founders want from their teams is extra effort and superior performance.

So how is it that you can drive such performance with your team outside of what is part of the agreement you have with them?

Well – one of the mechanisms is to use inspiration as a vehicle.

I want to run through the series of mechanisms in place at Pearl Lemon to etch out superior performance from our team.

Try and be an inspirational leader

This is something that is important when it comes to the conversations you have with your team and how you motivate them through the things you tell them.

Tell them about success, tell them about why they are here, and why you are here and more.

Be the hardest worker in the room

hardest worker

There’s nothing better than setting an example when it comes to success – and this is seen through hard work.

Whether it’s the first one to work or the last one to finish – find ways to demonstrate that you are the hardest worker in the team.

And the demonstration of this needs to be subtle rather than one you’ll shout from the rooftops.

Be A Motivational Speaker For Your Team

Motivational Speaker

For us, this happens through our weekly meetings every Friday which is centred around the life and general success advice as opposed to anything very specific to a particular department within the team – which is deal with one-on-one.

So then every week you have an opportunity to charge up your team.

This can be by answering questions such as:

  • Why do you do what you do?
  • How did you start your company?
  • What does success mean to you?
  • What motivates you to keep going?
  • How do you deal with adversity

And a whole variety of questions that ultimately ask different versions of the same thing

Lead By Example

Lead By Example

If you preach about hard work – work hard.

If you preach about anything – make sure that you are a living example of it – or that you are driving towards it.

Don’t engage in giving examples of things you expect from your team without being able to provide them yourself.

There’s nothing more inspiring than watching someone do the very thing they are asking you to do.

This is critical

If You Are The ‘A’ Player In Your Organization – Become The Best ‘A’ Player You Can Be

Best ‘A’ Player

If you’re the standard-bearer and standard-setter in the team – then continuously work to improve yourself so that you keep the standard as high as is possible for you.

As you keep developing your sword – than you shall find high levels of swordsmanship in others.

Expect Your Team To Be Excellent

To Be Excellent

This is something that I think damages people. Expecting too little of them – expect them to be highly capable and hold them to that standard at all times.

If you show someone something – expect them to make the same mistake up to 2x, and then start making different mistakes rather than the same ones

Highlight The Successes Of Your Team

Successes Of Your Team

Whenever there is an opportunity – highlight different members of your team and point out their excellent work.

Let them also be an inspiration to other members of the team.

Inspire other leaders to rise, and to lead.

This in the initial stages comes from recognising the success of others.

Discipline often, Reward fleetingly

Reward fleetingly

The more discipline you dish out with correcting people’s missteps and the more measured your congratulatory comments are – the more disciplined and resilient your team will become.

Please know – I do not mean shout and be rude – NEVER that.

I do mean, however, continually seek the improvement in others and keep pushing them to higher levels of success.

And then every now and again sprinkle in some encouragement.

Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts

A great way to get the most from your team – is to inspire them to new levels of hard work and dedication to wish to succeed and improve.

This comes from inspiring leaders – and this will become the biggest part you will play as you drive the ship forward.

Inspire others to rise to new levels of success.
