Touching Down in Cusco and Seeing it All, Peru 2009
Date of entry: June 16, 2009
It’s Tuesday 16th June, 7.14pm. Cuzco, Peru (As my wonderful Casio watch from Barnhill lost and found tells me).
Just a quick note to say 16 hour bus rides that straddle a 3,500 metre ascent make for headaches, nausea ? and disturbed sleep. When you’re as toughened as Mr. Shukla you merely squirm, wriggle, and whine about the air conditioning.
Feeling bloated, unhealthy (Peru seems to be an unhealthy food haven for moi right now) and ready to trek.
Thom and I await Machu Picchu.
We leave for a 4 days, 3 nights Jungle trek that will reach Machu Picchu for sunrise on the 21st on the day of the Solstice. It will involve some hefty trekking, a several hour bike ride ??, fruits ?, wildlife, scenery, some top views, and of course the company of Tymon and his family.
For now though, it’s 7.17pm and I’m sitting in an internet cafe writing to you guys back home….
What a retard….

Cusco formed the centre point of Incan civilisation, which spanned only some 400 years.
Peru is a country, as is South America as a whole, a cradle for amazing ruins, historical artefacts, undiscovered treasured, and lost lands that were forgotten and now rediscovered, after being claimed by the jungle.
A beautiful city to walk around by day, and a bustling city centre rife with gringo´s good times and good music ?, it is often called the tourist trap. Backpackers can get sucked into the laid back, and ultimately super cool epithets that come with Cuzco.
Cafes, hot sun, dizzy heights, cold nights ❄️ and lots more….
Thom and I, and our new fellow traveller, one young Swede Marten, saw nothing, ate much, and slept little.
Party, party, party. ?
No monuments, no museums, one market stall, but mas?! No…nada.
But the beauty of the Nokia N95 Camera phone which is serving as my notebook, camera and info centre for my entire trip, is…
Pictures. By the by. On the way. Incidentally. ?
A cool church, cathedral thingy…
Some cool indigenous woman with her kid and a little lamb ?. She charged me one sol for this pic.
